Here are the top stories today in Austin:
1) Good news: PBS Austin hosts a grand opening at their new home on the Austin Community College's Highland campus. Austin's nonprofit television station, Austin PBS, KLRU-TV, has officially opened its new headquarters at the ACC Highland Campus. The station operated at the University of Texas campus for roughly 60 years before deciding it was time for more space. The Statesman reports that their new facility is roughly 45,000 square feet and features three TV studios, including the Pfluger Keller Community Soundstage and a studio for ACC's public access channel, ACCTV – WOW!! Excited to see what new programming comes out of this expansion and the opportunities this will create for ACC students. Learn more here at the Austin American-Statesman.
2) Austin has installed its first Narcan vending machine outside of the Sunrise Community Church in South Austin. As the opioid crisis rages on, the community and public health organizations continue to explore different treatment options. Narcan is an emergency treatment that can quickly reverse an opioid overdose.
"With fentanyl being found in the local street drug supply, Narcan can be very important to have on-hand in case someone encounters opioids unknowingly or at a higher dose than intended," said Em Gray, with The Narcan in Case of Emergency (N.I.C.E) Project in a news release. "This is long overdue. This need has been under-resourced for a long time, and often, people don't know how to access Narcan, where to access it, or sometimes how to use it. They often only hear of it because of the loss or near-loss of a friend, loved one, or acquaintance."

3) Rollingwood City Council names Kristal Munoz as acting police chief. The Rollingwood City Council unanimously approved naming Assistant Police Chief Kristal Munoz the interim chief following the departure of Jason Brady, who is now leading the Seguin Police Department.
Munoz is a 19-year Rollingwood police veteran and will serve as acting chief for one year before a final decision is made. The Austin-American Statesman has more on this story here.
4) Good news: Tito's Vodka chips in to help fly 300 abandoned, homeless pets from Puerto Rico to the United States. Several pet welfare groups teamed up to bring 300 abandoned dogs and cats to the US. Austin-based vodka brand, Tito's Handmade Vodka, helped fund the flights. KVUE reports that 60 of the dogs aboard were on their way to meet their new families! Love when our local organizations step up for a good cause! Check out the full story here at FOX 7 Austin.
