Traffic Alert: I-35 Closure Planned For Stassney Lane Work

The Texas Department of Transportation will temporarily close the southbound Interstate 35 main lanes on Sunday, officials said.

AUSTIN, TX — The Texas Department of Transportation will temporarily close the southbound Interstate 35 main lanes on Sunday so crews can safely place beams for the Stassney Lane bridge, officials said.

The work is part of the I-35 from Stassney Lane to William Cannon Drive project. During the closures, traffic will be detoured to the frontage roads.

Sunday, from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., the southbound I-35 mainlanes will be closed between US 290/SH 71 and south of Stassney Lane as crews set beams for the new Stassney Lane bridge. Drivers must exit southbound I-35 at Stassney Lane (exit 229) and will be able to re-enter the highway at a temporary entrance ramp just south of Stassney Lane. Lane reductions will begin at 10 p.m. Both southbound I-35 flyovers from US 290/SH 71 will also be closed. Traffic will use the frontage roads to access the interstate. (See attached detour map.)
