Traffic Alert: I-35 Lanes Between U.S. 183, U.S. 290 To Close

AUSTIN, TX — Texas Department of Transportation crews will temporarily close the Interstate 35 main lanes between US 183 and U.S. 290 in alternating directions this week to set concrete bridge box beams for the new north-to-southbound turnaround bridge at St. Johns Avenue, officials said on Monday.

The closure is scheduled to start on Wednesday night at 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day. As part of the work, the southbound I-35 main lanes will be reduced to two lanes between U.S. 183 (Barwood Park) and St. Johns Avenue. Beginning at 12 a.m. until 2 a.m., the southbound main lanes will fully close and traffic will be detoured to the frontage road at the U.S. 183 exit (exit 240). Detoured traffic will travel through the U.S. 183 intersection and may re-enter I-35 south of St. Johns Avenue. Southbound I-35 traffic will take a right to get to U.S. 183 northbound.

Starting on Thursday night, Sept. 26, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning, northbound I-35 main lanes will be reduced to two lanes between U.S. 290 and St. Johns Avenue. Beginning at 12 a.m. until 2 a.m., the northbound I-35 main lanes will fully close to complete beam installation. The northbound I-35 to northbound U.S. 183 flyover bridge will also be closed. Northbound main lane traffic will be detoured to the frontage road at the U.S. 183 south exit (exit 239) and can re-enter I-35 at the next entrance ramp north of U.S. 183. Northbound I-35 traffic wishing to travel north on US 183 will use the frontage roads to access northbound US 183.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, as delays are expected.
