Travis County Approves $1.8M In Raises For Some Employees

Pay hikes benefit 649 workers in finance, social services and maintenance departments with Peter Einhorn getting biggest salary jump.

TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — Travis County commissioners on Tuesday approved $1.8 million worth of raises for some of its employees, according to reports.

The raises will benefit 649 Travis County employees in the finance, social services and maintenance departments, the Austin American-Statesman reported. Officials cited market changes and the need to remain competitive as the reason for the pay hikes. The move comes as a result of a benchmark study done by county staff, according to the report.

The pay increases were approved by a 3-0 vote, with Commissioner Margaret Gómez abstaining and Commissioner Brigid Shea absent. According to the report, the biggest beneficiary of the move is Peter Einhorn, the chief of staff to County Judge Sarah Ekchardt, whose salary will rise from about $87,761 to $102,945 — a 17 percent raise.
