Travis County Man Gets 25 Years In Prison For Attacking Woman

Corey Davis-Grant, 29, was found guilty in the Aug. 8, 2019, attack of an 18-year-old woman whose wallet was then stolen.

TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — A Travis County judge this week sentenced a man to 25 years in prison for attacking an 18-year-old woman before stealing her wallet.

Corey Davis-Grant, 29, was found guilty after the state put on evidence of his prior robberies. On Friday, Feb. 28, Judge Karen Sage imposed the lengthy prison sentence after a trial that was heard in the 299th District Court.

The incident dates to the afternoon of Aug. 8, 2019, when the victim told police she was walking at 905 Nueces near the Travis County Courthouse when she was attacked from behind. The victim said a man hit and choked her, prosecutors said. He then took her wallet before fleeing in his car, the Travis County District Attorney's Office said. The victim was able to get the car’s license plate, prosecutors said, and the Austin Police were able to track the vehicle.

Prosecutors said Davis-Grant admitted to driving the vehicle in downtown Austin that afternoon, and GPS data subsequently confirmed he was at the crime scene. DNA found on the victim’s neck also helped corroborate that he was the person who had attacked her, prosecutors noted. Davis-Grant was arrested by Austin Police the day after the attack on Aug. 9, prosecutors said.

Prosecuting for the State were Travis County Assistant District Attorneys Victoria Winkeler and Lucio Del Toro.
