Travis County Sheriff Seeks Unlicensed Chiropractor's Victims

TRAVIS COUNTY, TEXAS — The Travis County Sheriff's Office is asking people who were unlawfully treated or sexually abused by an unlicensed chiropractor to contact them, officials said Tuesday.

The plea comes amid allegations against Stephen Bruce Berman, whose license to practice chiropractic medicine expired in September 2017, officials said in a press advisory. Detectives began investigating Berman after a victim's outcry, saying she was touched inappropriately and made to endure unwanted sexual comments while seeking chiropractic care. After she confronted him, sheriff's officials said, the victim was refunded the money for her medical visit.

As a result, the Sex Crimes Unit in conjunction with the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners served a search warrant at a property Berman used as his office in the 1400-block of Miami Dr. on Jan. 7, sheriff's officials said.

Berman subsequently was arrested after having been charged with three counts of Practice Chiropractic Care Without a License, a Class A misdemeanor, with potential additional charges pending.

Detectives ask people unlawfully treated by Berman — whether or not they endured sexual advances and/or comments — to contact their tip line at (512) 854-1444.
