Trump Offers To Destroy Texas State Senator's Career With Whom He Disagrees

"Who is the state senator?" Trump asked complaining Texas sheriff at White House gathering on border security. "We'll destroy his career."

AUSTIN, TX — During a Tuesday meeting at the White House with law enforcement officials, Donald Trump offered political retribution for an aggrieved ally, but no one is quite sure whether or not he was just kidding.

During the gathering, Trump offered to go after an unnamed Texas senator after a visiting sheriff from Rockwall County attending the gathering complained about him. Sheriff Harold Eavenson told Trump that there was a state senator offering asset forfeiture legislation the lawman believed would aid Mexican drug cartels.

"Who is the state senator?" Trump asked the sheriff. "Do you want to give his name? We'll destroy his career," he offered.

The sheriff declined to name the senator at the Trump-led gathering as he did when the Dallas Morning News called seeking more details about the exchange.

Other law enforcement officials at the meeting reportedly laughed after the offer was made. For his part, the sheriff later said he didn't wish the unnamed state senator any ill will, but just happened to disagree with his position on an issue.

"He was just being emphatic that he did not agree with that senator's position," Eavenson said of Trump's response. "I'm not into assassinating his character," the sheriff added, referring to the state senator he referenced to Trump.

Located in Northeast Texas, Rockwall County, at 129 square miles, has the smallest area of any county in Texas. Part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan statistical area, the county also has the distinction of being the 6th wealthiest in Texas.
