Here are the top stories in Austin today:

1) TSA expresses concern over the number of guns carried into the Austin airport. Officials from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) report that they confiscated its 100th gun from making it onto an airplane this week at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Officials also stated that most of the confiscated guns appeared to be loaded. Learn more on this story here at FOX 7 Austin.

2) La Barbecue owner, manager indicted on workers' compensation fraud charges. La Barbecue owner LeAnn Mueller and manager Allison Clem, who is also Mueller's wife, have been ordered to appear in Travis County district court in late September, according to the Texas Department of Insurance. Check out the full story here at KVUE.

3) Travis County's program to provide lawyers at its downtown jail is on hold. KUT reports that since 2019, Travis County has been trying to provide folks an attorney at its first court hearings downtown — hearings that can determine whether you're in jail for hours or days or weeks. Travis County continues to struggle to get this program off the ground. KUT has more on this story here.

4) City officials launching a new team to coordinate homeless encampment cleanups. This week, Austin officials announced the new Homeless Encampment Management Team, a multi-departmental group that will coordinate the management of public spaces occupied by homeless encampments. A memo released from the city manager's office said the new team has a leadership team and three other sections: planning, operations and policy.

The leadership team is led by someone from the city's homeless services department but also includes the Austin Police Department, Austin Fire Department, Parks and Recreation Department and Watershed Protection Department. Learn more about this development here at KVUE.
