🌱 April 12 Named 'John Dromgoole Day' + 'Spa For A Cause'

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Austin.

(Patch Media)

Good day, people of Austin! It's me again, Gabriela Couvillion, your host of the Austin Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 85 Low: 61.

Here are the top stories in Austin today:

  1. Austin city officials named Tuesday, April 12, "John Dromgoole Day" after John Dromgoole, owner of The Natural Gardener organic nursery and host of "Gardening Naturally" radio show. Dromgoole, who "has helped gardeners all over Central Texas keep their yards and plants vibrant and flourishing," specializes in organic gardening "and his 8-acre nursery showcases how he composts and protects plants against pests and disease without pesticides, among other strategies to help gardens thrive." He said, "Many of these people had children at the time since when we started, and they don't know words like diazinon and malathion. They know the names of the organic products, and that's really something." He added, "From one generation to the next, a lot of that disappeared." Besides owning his nursery and hosting the radio show, "he founded Lady Bug Natural Brands" in 2000 and "also hosts a weekly county music radio show on SUN Radio 100.1 FM." 2. This month Hiatus Spa + Retreat is celebrating Earth month, and as part of their "Spa for a Cause" campaign, they are raffling off nine "Change Your Life HydraFacials" from now until April 30. The "Change Your Life HydraFacials" are "valued at $265 each and according to the spa's representatives, they are "the ultimate treatment that includes all the luxurious essentials of the HydraFacial System while balancing performance and relaxation." Proceeds from the ticket sales will go directly to "water, a nonprofit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to millions of people around the world." Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20 and can be purchased at any Hiatus Spa location or online. For spa locations and campaign information, please click here and visit: (www.hiatusspa.com)
