🌱 Two Rainey Shops Are Closing + Hope House Making A Difference

Here are the top stories today in Austin:
- On Sunday, March 27, The Container Bar at 90 Rainey St. and Bungalow at 92 Rainey St. permanently closed their doors in Austin. The spots where the businesses operated will now "become the future home of a new 55-story high-rise condo building, the Modern, as reported by Towers." According to the Austin Business Journal, the owner of the Container Bar, which is going to be demolished, "will run a bar in the basement of the future development" and the "building will also include some sort of exclusive residents-only hospitality business." - The Hope House, "a community of forever homes for the 'most profoundly, intellectually disable of all ages... is making a difference for children and adults that need 24/7 care." The North Austin nonprofit, which opened in 1960, was led by "Rosemarie "Rose" McGarrigle, who passed away in 2003," and "some of the children she took in the 1960s still live at in the Hope House community." Executive Director David Gould started working at summer camps for Down syndrome children when he was in 7th grade. He said, "It is hard work... these children and adults need around-the-clock care. Our job with them is to help them develop over time have some form of communication to express their wants and needs." - Larry Cole of Atwell, LLC in Austin was recently promoted to project manager at the company's real estate and land development division. Cole has "over 30 years of experience in the surveying field," Cole "brings tremendous technical and industry leadership to the firm" and in his new position, he "will be responsible for managing project coordination and execution, developing project objectives, guiding his team's deliverables, providing quality control, maintaining project budgets and schedules, and managing and developing client relationships." Atwell Vice President Todd Janssen said, "Larry's management skills and experience on land development projects, along with his expertise in power and energy makes him an excellent leader for our team." He added, "He brings the industry knowledge, expertise, and responsiveness necessary to meet our clients' needs and help expand our growing professional services."
