UT-Austin Longhorns Player Indefinitely Suspended Over Gun Charge

Receiver Joshua Moore faces misdemeanor charge after police found him with an unlicensed loaded weapon over the summer.

AUSTIN, TX — A key member of the Longhorns football team at the University of Texas at Austin has been indefinitely suspended following an arrest on a gun charge, the football coach announced on Monday.

Texas coach Tom Herman announced the indefinite suspension of receiver Joshua Moore on Labor Day, KXAN reported, in a move that comes after the athlete was suspended for the season opener against Louisiana Tech. The coach noted Moore was still practicing with the team.

Moore faces a misdemeanor gun charges for carrying a loaded pistol without a license, according to the Austin Police Department. He was previously released on $5,000 bond pending a court date, the news station reported.

As reported by CBS Sports in referencing an arrest affidavit, police on July 5 spotted a man on the city's video surveillance system "remove a firearm from his waistband, walk in between two vehicles, appearing to chamber a round by pulling the slide of the gun to the rear, and then place the firearm back into his waistband."

Moore was later located and arrested by police, CBS Sports reported, finding a loaded pistol in his possession during a search.

According to a University of Texas player bio, Moore is a second-year wide receiver who has played in six career games, and was named All-America and three-time all-district.
