Here are some Veterans Day 2019 freebies and discounts for active duty and retired military personnel throughout the Austin area.

AUSTIN, TX — If anyone is deserving of special recognition and freebies, it's veterans. Others agree, as special deals for those who've served our country will abound come Veterans Day next week.

Monday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day. All across the region, those who have served their country to safeguard our freedoms will be thanked with special deals in their honor. Patch has gotten word of some of these deals — as well as others being offered on a national scale — occurring on the actual day or the weekend preceding it.

Carrabba’s Italian Grill is saluting military personnel from Friday, Nov. 8 through Monday, Nov. 11, with a free order of Calamari with any purchase to all veterans, active military, police officers and firefighters with a valid military ID. All restaurants will also offer 10 percent off orders to all active and retired service members anytime they visit their local Carrabba’s Italian Grill. RED, WHITE AND BOURBON

Garrison Brothers Distillery, the first corn to cork bourbon distillery in America opened beyond Kentucky, and the first legal whiskey distillery in Texas, will celebrate Veterans Day with a collaborative fundraiser for the Admiral Nimitz Foundation and the National Museum of the Pacific War in nearby Fredericksburg, Texas.

Dubbed Red, White, and Bourbon, the daytime event will take place at the Garrison Brothers Distillery in Hye, Texas, on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors include a litany of hill country wineries, breweries, and local business sponsors. 100% of sales from beer, wine and food will go directly to the foundation.

Guests will enjoy bourbon barrel-aged craft beer from Family Business Beer Co., hamburgers from Fischer & Weiser, cold drinks from Coca Cola, and a variety of red, white, and rosé wines from William Chris Vineyards, Cicada Cellars, Calais Winery, and Hye Meadow Winery. A full 100 percent of beer, wine and food sales will go directly to the Admiral Nimitz Foundation. Habana Cowboy will also be on site with a mobile cigar lounge. Garrison Brothers would like to thank this year’s Red, White and Bourbon sponsors - Tecovas, Mercedes of Boerne, and HEB.

Patrons can dip their own red, white, and blue wax bottles at the gift shop and a portion of proceeds from the sale of each bottle will also be donated to the Admiral Nimitz Foundation. The museum will also have living history displays set up showcasing WWII weapons and equipment.

RESTORE HYPER WELLNESS + CRYOTHERAPY

Restore Hyper Wellness + Cryotherapy is offering 50 percent off single Restore services and Tier 1 IV’s for all veterans valid only on Veterans Day, according to a press advisory sent to Patch. Launched in Austin by a former U.S. Army officer, the chain offers a variety of hyper wellness services. In addition to those local deals, a number of national retailers are offering special deals for Veterans Day. Here are some of those:

  • Applebee’s: Veterans and active-duty military in uniform can get a free meal from a limited menu at participating Applebee’s on Nov. 11.
  • Chili’s Grill & Bar: All veterans and active duty service members can receive a free meal on Veterans Day at all participating restaurants.
  • Golden Corral: Military vets, retirees, and active duty members are being offered a free dinner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at all Golden Corral locations on Veterans Day.
  • Baker’s Square: All veterans and active duty service members receive a free meal on Veteran’s Day from Baker’s Square.
  • 54th Street Grill and Bar: Veterans + active duty military personnel who eat at a 54th Street Grill and Bar receive a free entrée up to $12 on Veteran’s Day.
  • Red Robin: Veteran’s and active duty military are being offered a free dine-in Red’s Tavern Double Burger and Bottomless Steak Fries on Veteran’s Day.
  • Grub Burger: Veterans and active military members can get a free meal at a Grub Burger Bar location on Saturday, Nov. 11.
  • IHOP: All active duty and retired veterans in observance of Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, are invited to come in to IHOP and enjoy a “free” breakfast.
  • Lucille’s BBQ: Veterans and active duty military will enjoy a complimentary dessert with proof of service on Nov. 11.
  • Texas Roadhouse: Veterans and active military receive a free lunch on Nov. 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at all Texas Roadhouse locations.
  • TGI Fridays: Military guests with a valid military ID will be treated to a free lunch menu item up to $12 on Nov. 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. These guests also will receive a $5 coupon for their next meal at Fridays. Call your local TGI Fridays for details.
  • Subway: Military veterans with a valid ID are being offered a free six-inch sub on Nov. 11 at select locations.
  • Outback: Veterans with a military ID can get a free Bloomin’ Onion and non-alcoholic beverage on Nov. 11, and 20 percent off their check Nov. 12 to Dec. 31.
  • California Pizza Kitchen: Veterans and active U.S. military members with proof of service have an invitation to enjoy a complimentary meal from CPK’s Veterans Day menu at all participating California Pizza Kitchen locations nationwide.
  • The Chop House: Veterans receive a 50 percent discount with a valid military ID on Nov. 11. This does not apply to alcoholic beverages.
  • Cici’s Pizza: All active duty or retired military with a valid military ID are being offered a free pizza buffet on Nov. 11.
  • Joe’s Crab Shack: Veterans and active duty military with valid ID will enjoy 20 percent off on Nov. 11. Please call ahead to your local Joe’s Crab Shack if you have any questions about your Veteran’s Day Discount.
  • Little Caesars Pizza: Veterans and active duty military with valid ID will receive a free $5 hot-n-ready lunch combo.On Nov. 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Retail Discounts

  • The Home Depot: Veterans are being offered a 10 percent military discount on in-store purchases on select items. All veterans are eligible for this discount during the Veterans Day weekend. Visit the Home Depot website for details.
  • Walgreens: Active military, veterans and their families receive 20 percent off everything. Walgreens also provides free flu shots for VA-enrolled Veterans. Visit the Walgreens website for details.

The first Veterans Day — initially recognized as Armistice Day in 1919 — marked the date when Germany and the Allies signed a 1918 agreement to cease World War I.

Veterans Day was later officially approved as a national holiday on May 13, 1938, to primarily honor veterans of World War I. Almost two decades after in 1954, it became a day to recognize American veterans of all wars, and the name changed to its current form, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
