Video Of Deadly Shooting During SXSW Emerges

A Facebook user posted cell phone video of violent officer-involved shooting that began as a simple fender-bender before tempers rose.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — Cell phone footage of an officer-involved shooting that occurred during SXSW has emerged, and it's been shared widely on social media.

The March 17 incident involved people in two vehicles involved in a fender-bender that turned violent along the 700 block of East 7th Street. Gunfire was exchanged after police arrived to the scene and returned fire as the suspects fled.

In the aftermath of the incident, Austin Police Department Chief Brian Manley told reporters one of the suspects who appeared to have been shot by the occupant of a Maserati involved in the accident produced a gun himself upon retreating to the other vehicle, pointing it at officers who returned fire.

The Maserati was later found in the Mueller development with a Dallas man dead inside.
In the video posted to video posted on Facebook on Wednesday, the scene is one reminiscent of the Wild West, with multiple people shooting at one another. Witnesses can be heard with exclamations of shock in witnessing the violence from a nearby vehicle. "He's dead!" one says. "Oh my God!" exclaims another.

The shooting was one of several that took place on the last weekend of SXSW. Police have vowed to crack down on the city's entertainment corridor as a result.
