Violent Takedown of Jaywalkers By Police Has Austin Buzzing

The video, which shows Austin Police officers violently arresting three people for jaywalking, has sparked an investigation.

Austin police officers are being investigated in connection with the violent takedown of three people, apparently for jaywalking.

The incident occurred Friday at k2:30 a.m. on the 600 block of E 6th St, police said.

The video shows several police officers pushing two men against a wall in an attempt to arrest them. In a struggle, police are seen kneeing and hitting the men as they try to place them in handcuffs.

At one point in the video one of the men being arrested begins to yell, “What did i do?”

One police officer explains they were, “crossing against the light.”

One of the men arrested, Jeremy Kingg, spoke with Attn, and tweeted about the incident. He told attn that the other man arrested is named Matthew Wallace, and that their friend Lourdos Glen was also taken into custody.

Kingg and Glen are no longer in jail, but Wallace remains on a charge of resisting arrest, reported Attn.

“The prosecutor dismissed my case since i didnt do anything wrong which is a blessing... its kinda like it never happened but ill remember,” Kingg said in a tweet.

The Austin Police Department release an official statement regarding the arrest on Friday.

“ As is standard protocol, the Chain of Command will review the Response to Resistance and the incident to determine what led up to the events captured in the video and whether the officer’s actions were in compliance with APD policy,” read the police’s statement.
