Here are the top stories today in Austin:
- In January of this year, the Board of Directors of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce (GACC) "unanimously voted to support a recent academic study project" to benefit the community and the city's public safety. The Police Staffing Project, funded by the Greater Austin Crime Commission, was "conducted by the University of New Haven and Texas State University." Corby Jastrow, GACC president, said, "Austin is the first city to use machine learning to model police staffing. Funding this groundbreaking research project is probably the most important contribution the Greater Austin Crime Commission has made to the community in its 25-year history." - The Austin City Council is looking for qualified individuals "to serve on the 11-member Sobering Center Local Government Corporation Board of Directors." The opening is for an unexpired term that ends on Dec. 31, 2023, and applications will stay open until the position is filled. The application can be found at https://austintexas.granicus.com/boards/forms/385/apply and may be emailed along with a resume and statement of intent to Stephanie Hall, boards and commissions coordinator at stephanie.hall@austintexas.gov.
