Watch: Virtual Commencement Ceremony Honors UT-Austin Grads

AUSTIN, TX — Friends and family of the Longhorn community are invited to gather online Saturday night to honor the Class of 2020 at The University of Texas at Austin’s 137th Spring Commencement ceremony.

"The 2020 graduating class has been resilient throughout the COVID-19 pandemic," UT-Austin officials said in a news advisory, "finding innovative ways to connect to one another, learn and now celebrate their achievements."

That resiliency will be on full display tonight, and students are encouraged to tune in with their families for a pre-show at 8:30 p.m. followed by a live ceremony at 9 p.m. All told, 9,946 students comprise the class of spring 2020 degree candidates graduating in tonight’s virtual ceremony — 7,063 earning bachelor's degrees, 2,063 with master's degrees and 820 with doctoral degrees. Among the doctoral students, 49 are the first graduating class of Dell Medical School, university officials noted.

Internationally acclaimed researcher and author, UT alumna and McCombs School of Business visiting professor Brené Brown will deliver the keynote address at the virtual ceremony, which will also include a celebratory Tower lighting and live performances.

Brown headlines a group of distinguished leaders across academic disciplines, who will deliver livestreamed graduation speeches for the individual colleges, schools and departments across campus.
