Weekly Traffic Alert: Austin-Area Road Closures For Aug. 24-31

AUSTIN, TX — There are things in modern life that can't be avoided: The inexorable passage of time, making us older with each passing day; taxes; telemarketers; losing a sock when washing clothes, its whereabouts relegated to the realm of mystery.

But getting stuck in traffic needn't be one of those woes of daily living. With advance and careful planning, one can determine which local roadways undergoing construction and maintenance to avoid to ensure a seamless commute.

Enter the Texas Department of Transportation — often the target of our collective ire given their road work focus — with weekly, helpful primers of road construction and maintenance scheduled each week. It's a heads-up list of projects alerting motorists on which arteries to avoid as they begin their week.

And so, behold the latest list of Mobility 35-related road projects of which you should be aware for the week of Aug. 24-31.

I-35 AT FM 3406

• Southbound I-35 reduced to one lane under FM 3406
  • From 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday, August 26 through Thursday, August 30
• Southbound I-35 right lane closed between RM 1431 and FM 3406. The FM 3406 exit #254 and the following entrance ramp will also close as needed.
  • From 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday, August 27 and Tuesday, August 28

I-35 FROM RUNDBERG LANE TO US 290 EAST

• Powell Ln closed at I-35. Detour via Wonsley Dr.
  • Through August 2018
• Carver Ave closed at the southbound US 183 frontage road
  • Through August 2018
• Clock Tower Dr closed at the northbound US 183 frontage road
  • Through September 2018
• I-35 traffic signals switch at US 290 E. Watch for police directing traffic.
  • From 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, August 25
• Southbound I-35 right lane closed between US 183 and US 290 E
  • From 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday, August 26 through Monday, August 27
• I-35 left lane closed in both directions between US 183 and US 290 E
  • From 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday, August 26 through Thursday, August 30
• Northbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed between US 183 and Rundberg Ln. The exit and entrance ramps at Rundberg Ln will also be closed.
  • From 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday, August 26 through Thursday, August 30
• Southbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed between US 183 and St. Johns Ave and between Huntland Dr and US 290 E
  • From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, August 27 through Friday, August 31
• Northbound I-35 right lane closed between US 290 E and St. Johns Ave
  • From 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday, August 28 through Wednesday, August 29

I-35 AT OLTORF STREET

• Southbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed between the Woodland Ave exit and Woodland Ave
  • From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. weekdays, through August 31st
• Southbound I-35 frontage road closed as needed between Oltorf St and Woodward St. Watch for flaggers.
  • From 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday, August 27 through Thursday, August 30
• Northbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed between SH 71 and Woodward St
  • From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday, August 27 through Thursday, August 30
• Southbound I-35 frontage road closures between the Woodland Ave exit and Woodland Ave
  • From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, August 27 through Friday, August 31
• Various I-35 frontage road closures in both directions at Oltorf St
  • From 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday, August 28 through Thursday, August 30

I-35 FROM STASSNEY LANE TO WILLIAM CANNON DRIVE

• Northbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed between William Cannon Dr and Nelms Dr
  • Through August 2018
• Northbound I-35 left lane closed under William Cannon Dr
  • From 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday, August 26 through Thursday, August 30
• Alternating northbound I-35 frontage road closures between Stassney Ln and Williamson Creek
  • From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, August 27 through Tuesday, August 28
• Northbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed between the William Cannon Dr exit and Boggy Creek Dr
  • From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, August 27 through Thursday, August 30
• I-35 U-turn bridge at William Cannon Dr closed
  • From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, August 27 through Thursday, August 30

MAINTENANCE

• Various I-35 closures in both directions between Yarrington Rd and RM 150
  • From 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday, August 26th through Thursday, August 30
• I-35 left lane closed in both directions between Holly St and Manor Rd
  • From 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Wednesday, August 29 through Thursday, August 30
• Southbound I-35 frontage road left lane closed between Three Points Rd and Cheddar Loop Rd. The exit and entrance ramps for Wells Branch Parkway will also be closed.
  • From 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday, August 26 through Monday, August 27
