What's Open, Closed In Austin, Travis County On Thanksgiving

Book lovers should take note that the city library system closures begin even earlier at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — Austin city offices and those for Travis County will close in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

City of Austin offices are closed on both Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, and the following Friday, Nov. 29.

The city's library system will close even earlier, starting on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 6 p.m. The holiday closure will continue on Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29.

As far as trash and recycling collections, if your collection day falls on Thanksgiving Day (or Christmas Day or New Year's Day, for that matter) it slides to one day later. For future reference: If the holiday falls on a Sunday, your collection day will not slide.

All Travis County offices will be closed from Nov. 28-29. County offices will resume operations on Monday, Dec. 2. The Commissioners Court meeting usually staged on Tuesdays will not take place on Dec. 3. Instead, the next commissioners court meeting following the holiday will be Tuesday, Dec. 10.
