Woman Dies In Two-Car Wreck In Downtown Austin

D'Avion Lee Suon, 20, was identified as the driver who collided with another vehicle along the 1400 block of West Cesar Chavez Street.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the victim of a fatal traffic crash that occurred last week in downtown Austin.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 22, just before 8:30 p.m. along the 1400 block of West Cesar Chavez Street. According to a preliminary investigation, a driver was traveling eastbound in a gray, 2007 Toyota Corolla when she crossed the center line into the oncoming path of a green, 1993 Chevrolet Silverado.

Police said the driver of the Corolla, 20-year-old D'Avion Lee Suon, died at the scene following the collision. According to birth date information provided by police, the woman had just turned 20 on Jan. 12 before she died in the collision. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police added.

Police noted the incident marked Austin’s 7th fatal traffic crash of 2020, resulting in seven fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, police added, there were three traffic fatalities.
