Woman Draws DWI Charge After Fatal Collision In South Austin

AUSTIN, TX — Police have charged a woman with driving while intoxicated after a collision this week that left a pedestrian dead.
In a press advisory, police said the arrest comes in the wake of a collision on Monday just before 8:30 p.m. along the 9000 block of South Congress Avenue. That is where a 2018 Toyota RAV-4 driven by Debrah Callison, 69, was traveling southbound in the outside lane before striking Christian Livingston, 26, as he walked along the roadway rather than on the adjacent east curb line sidewalk.
Livingston was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit, police said. For her part, Callison remained on the scene awaiting arrival of police. She was found to be intoxicated, and was arrested for DWI, police said.

The incident marked the 60th fatal traffic crash of 2019 in Austin, resulting in 62 fatalities this year. At this time in 2018, police added, there were 51 fatal traffic crashes and 52 traffic fatalities.
