Woman Found Dead In Downtown Austin Hotel

AUSTIN, TX — A woman was found dead inside a downtown hotel Wednesday morning, police said, and a man was detained in connection to her death.

Police were called to the Holiday Inn hotel at 805 Neches St. at the intersection with 9th Street just before 4:45 a.m. Officer Destiny Silva told reporters the call was related to a "nature unknown urgent" incident before the woman's body was found riddled with trauma.

The victim, a black woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Citing the ongoing nature of the investigation, Silva wouldn't specify if the woman died of gunshot or stab wounds. A man at the scene was detained, Silva said, but she provided no further details.
