Police ID Suspect, Victim In Fatal South Austin Stabbing

The incident along the 3800 block of Allegro Lane just after 12:15 p.m. left a 60-year-old woman dead after being stabbed.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the victim and suspect in a fatal stabbing incident the occurred on Monday in South Austin.

The incident occurred just after 12:15 p.m. along the 3800 block of Allegro Lugar St., police said in a new release. Upon arrival, police saw a mortally wounded woman who was pronounced dead a short time later. Police identified the victim as 60-year-old Sandra Jo Vollette. Police said the suspect, Christopher Cate, 36, was detained at the scene.

Police continue to investigate the case, but stressed it is not a domestic violence incident. A motive for the killing was unclear, but officials noted Cate had displayed erratic behavior prior to is detention which prompted transport to South Austin Medical Center for evaluation. After being medically reviewed, Cate later was booked into the Travis County Jail after being charged with murder, police said.

AUSTIN, TX — A man was arrested after a woman was killed in South Austin on Monday.

According to the Austin Police Department, the incident occurred along the 3800 block of Allegro Lane just after 12:15 p.m.

During a subsequent press conference, officer Katrina Ratcliff said police arrived at the scene to find a mortally wounded woman estimated to be around 60 years old. Despite efforts by Austin-Travis County EMS to save the woman's life, she was pronounced dead at 12:29 p..m., the officer said. The nature of her injuries was not specified, referred vaguely as "penetrating wounds" by the officer.

Ratcliff said a suspect was in custody. The suspect was known to the dead woman, the officer said, but was not related. In other words, the incident was not a related to domestic violence, the officers added.
