Austin Energy Invites Public To Celebrate Solar Farm Opening
Members of the community are invited to a fun-filled event on Saturday marking new ability to use solar energy without expensive panels.

EAST AUSTIN, TX ― Austin Energy utility officials plan a community event this coming Saturday to celebrate their receiving the first batch of solar energy from their La Loma Community Solar Farm.
The community celebration is scheduled for this coming Saturday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to noon at the solar farm located at 924 Lott Ave. In addition to a ribbon-cutting ceremony, there will be solar farm tours, the planting of sunflowers, food, giveaways, kids' activities (face-painting included, naturally) and solar car races.
The new solar farm boasts of 9,000 panels and 2.6 megawatt power capable of producing, at minimum, 4,400 megawatt-hours of electric power each year. The communal nature of the plant enables the sharing of the output from a centralized location among multiple customers rather than having to install solar panels atop their homes. This includes not only homeowners but apartment dwellers or those with overly shaded rooftops.
