Austin Honor Flight To Fly 22 Vets To Nation's Capital

Vets from World War II, Korean conflict and Vietnam War will be flown out to see Washington, D.C. memorials erected in their honor.

AUSTIN, TX — Nearly two dozen war veterans will be flown to Washington, D.C. on Friday to visit memorials at the nation's capital built in their honor.

The special outing will represent the 51st Honor Flight Austin trip, this one sponsored by 22KILL. All told, 22 Austin-area veterans from World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War will be flown out. Three more such flights are scheduled later this year.

The veterans will arrive in the ticketing area at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) around 10 a.m. on Friday, April 0. Veterans, guardians and staff will assemble for a procession, from Gate 5 to Gate 12 around 11 a.m., led by the TSA Honor Guard and Austin Police Department Bag Pipes.

Honor Flight Austin will depart Austin-Bergstrom at 12:15 p.m., and will be arriving at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) at 4:25 p.m. The veterans will return Saturday, April 21, departing from Reagan at 3:10 p.m. and arriving at AUS at 5:45 p.m., all times local.

The flight is operated by Southwest Airlines, while the Hilton Austin Airport is a corporate sponsor of Honor Flight Austin. Lunch and refreshments will be provided to veterans courtesy of ThunderCloud Subs. Trips on Honor Flight are made possible at no cost to the veterans through donations.
