Austin ISD To Proceed With Property Sales
Board of trustees will likely approve sales of surplus real estate at its Nov. 27 meeting, including its 6th Street headquarter for $36.5M.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin ISD officials will discuss the sale of some of its properties located on prime real estate at trustees' meeting next week.
According to a copy of the Nov. 27 Austin ISD board of trustees agenda, the school district appears to be poised to move forward with the property sales. The real estate is described as surplus in the agenda, and district officials have previously voiced plans to sell the holdings.

- Baker Center, a former school located in Hyde Park, is to be sold for the minimum bid of $10.6 million to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. According to Alamo Drafthouse officials, plans for a mixed-use development there will include 25 percent of residential units as affordable housing.
- Carruth Center, the 2.7 acre district headquarters on West 6th Street, for $36.5 million to Schlosser Development of Austin, which emerged as the highest bidder on the property after a minimum bid of $30 million.
- Millett Opera House to be sold for $3 million to the Foundation for the Preservation of the Historic Millett Opera House, the sole bidder on the property. The minimum bid on this property was $5.4 million.
According to the trustees' agenda, the school board also will vote on selling its 8-acre Tannehill Lane property for $1.96 million to the city and a 1.2-acre Doris Drive land for $920,000. Both of the amounts are the minimum bid set for the properties.
