Austin Man Arrested After Punching Cop -

Southern Longoria, 23, threw a punch at an officer who asked him to move a disabled vehicle as a separate collision was being investigated.

AUSTIN, TX — A man was arrested this weekend after being accused of punching an officer near Barton Creek Square, according to an arrest affidavit.

The Austin American-Statesman reported the incident occurred this past Friday on the side of a highway. Southern Longoria, 23, was charged with attempted assault on a peace officer after allegedly swearing and punching him, according to the report.

Police were assisting with a crash near Capitol of Texas Highway and Walsh Tarlton Lane at a time when there was heavy traffic due to Black Friday shopping. As police were clearing the scene, they asked two men to allow them to push the disabled vehicle they had been in off the road as it was blocking traffic in the middle lane.

One of the men complied, but the other one was less than open to the idea. The man yelled curse words instead, according to the report, before charging at the officer. The man attempted to hit the officer in the face, but missed and made contact with his chest, although the policeman was unharmed.

Longoria was charged with attempted assault on a peace officer. That's a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in jail. He was booked into Travis County jail with bail set at $10,000.
