EAST AUSTIN, TX — If you happen to be at the Austin airport Tuesday evening, don't be alarmed if you witness a scene reminiscent of an active shooter scene. It's only a drill.

The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will host the Austin Police Department’s Counter Assault Strike Team (CAST) overnight from Sept. 19 to early morning Sept. 20 to conduct an active shooter training exercise. The lower level of the airport will be closed down to vehicular traffic at approximately midnight at which time traffic will be redirected to the upper level, airport officials said.

The east end of the interior lower level will also be cordoned off during the exercise. The area will be reopened once the training is over, somewhere between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., according to airport officials.
