Summer Exposure is a series of two-week group exhibitions showcasing local artists working in a variety of media.
Steve Maddox is an experienced educator and abstract minimalist artist. He uses acrylic, spray paint, charcoal, and markers to create large pieces on canvas where he scrapes, scratches, and sprays water to drip, blend, and mingle paint. After over 40 years devoted to public school leadership, Maddox now focuses on his art and providing community service as a gallery teacher and art educator at The Blanton Museum of Art on the grounds of the University of Texas at Austin.
Jessica Cook is a figurative painter whose work captures movement and the emotional presence of people and animals. Her most recent work focuses on quiet, dream-like encounters and fleeting moments inspired by nature and stories. Trained in traditional oil painting, she now often combines collage, handwriting and washes of color in a mixed media approach. Cook studied English and Advertising at the University of Texas in Austin and later trained at the Austin Fine Arts Classes Atelier and apprenticed with portrait artist Marc Chatov in Atlanta.
Jason Wallerstein creates woodblock and linocut prints that are Texas and Southwestern animal-themed with a slightly dark twist. He grew up in an environment which fostered a strong connection to animals and the natural world (his pets included ten dogs, ten cats, a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig, parrots, snakes, turtles, and tarantulas), and his artwork reflects this love for the outdoors and all things Texas. Wallerstein has created murals, worked on artistic collabs, and is a multi-year participant at Print Austin.org's Print Expo as part of BrunkyArt - Fine Art by Jason Wallerstein.
