Cops Find Person Dead Of Gunshot Wound In East Austin

SWAT team members were called to 1100 block of Ebert Avenue amid reports of shots fired, finding victim inside home after standoff.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — A person was found dead of a gunshot wound inside an East Austin home early Sunday after SWAT team members entered the residence.

Police were called to the home along the 1100 block of Ebert Avenue to find the victim dead of a gunshot wound early Sunday morning, police said. Police originally were called amid reports of shots fired in the area just after 10 p.m. Saturday, police said in a subsequent press briefing.

Police subsequently evacuated the home but determined the suspect was still inside and not complying with their commands to exit the building. As a result, the SWAT team was called in before the grisly discovery was made. Several surrounding homes also reportedly were evacuated during the standoff.

Police continue to investigate the matter, and said no threat to the public lingers in the aftermath of the incident.
