East Austin Apartment Maintenance Worker Charged With Murder

Anthony Andrew Verastegui had a disagreement with a fellow tenant before the shooting on Sunday, police say.

EAST AUSTIN, TX --Police have arrested a maintenance worker at an East Austin apartment complex, charging him with murder.

Anthony Andrew Verastegui, 28, is accused of shooting Efrain Rodriguez-Esquivel at the Harvard Manor Apartments at 5020 Manor Road this past Sunday, the Austin American-Statesman reported. Referencing an arrest warrant affidavit, the Statesman reported the incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m.

The victim's girlfriend found him bleeding near his apartment. Shot four times, the man was transported to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.

According to the affidavit, Verastegui, who lives at the complex, had gotten into a disagreement with the victim before the shooting.

Verastegui is now behind bars with bail set at $250,000, according to Travis County Jail records.
