East Austin Fight Leads To Victim With Severed Leg

Amid fight over broken glass near a car, driver spins car before hitting victim and nearly cutting his leg clean off below the knee.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — A fight over broken beer bottles led to a vehicle crash that left a man with a severed leg, according to reports.

The incident occurred on Sunday, but details have just been released via an arrest affidavit. Officers responded to a crash at 1919 E. Riverside Drive early morning where a group of people were fighting in front of a club, according to a report by Fox 29. A crash had occurred at the site, and a person had been run over, according to the report.

A male victim was on the ground with his right leg partially dislocated below the knee, according to the report. According to witnesses, people in two different cars had gotten into a fight centered on broken beer bottles near one of the vehicles, Fox reported.

The crowd dispersed but then a driver rammed the other car several times, according to the report. The driver then began spinning in circles at a high rate of speed, striking the victim and nearly completely severing his leg, the report indicates.

The victim was rushed to the hospital. Rogelio Berrones-Campos, 28, was identified as the driver who struck the victim. He was charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, a 2nd degree felony, with a bond set at $60,000.
