East Austin Studio Tour Spreads South
For the first time since the event's creation, studios south of Lady Bird Lake are featured.

East Austin no longer has a monopoly on art studios worth visiting.
In the East Austin Studio Tour’s 14th running this year, studios south of Lady Bird Lake are being featured for the first time. This year’s tour, which will run the weekend of the 14th and 21st in November will feature 287 Artist Studios, 152 Exhibitions, 17 Happenings and a series of Select Events, according to the tour’s website.
Some of the southernmost studios featured are The Magic House Collective and White Light Studio, an all-female studio which promotes and supports women artists.

The expansion south may be reflective of rising property values in East Austin, which has restricted the availability of affordable studio space. So this year’s southbound reach may be a sign of things to come.

Studio tours will occur from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the tour’s weekend schedule. Happenings, such as parties and exhibits will occur at varying times and are also free. Certain select events may require an entrance fee.
The East Austin Studio Tour reminds art appreciators to be aware that most of these art studios are in residential areas so to avoid congestion tour-goers should walk, bike or use public transportation.

The studio tour is run by Big Medium, a nonprofit dedicated to support the visual arts in Texas.
