Five Killed In Traffic Accident Near Dripping Springs
The deadly crash was the second to occur along U.S. 290 on Sunday, happening within minutes of each other.

DRIPPING SPRINGS, TEXAS -- Five people were killed in a traffic accident Sunday afternoon just east of the Austin city limits near Dripping Springs, officials confirmed.
Texas Department of Public Safety officials told media outlets the crash occurred at U.S. 290 and Crow Ranch Road shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday, KXAN-TV and other news outlets reported.
Two vehicles collectively carrying seven people were victims of the crash that occurred after a car traveling eastbound on U.S. 290 lost control, according to media reports. The vehicle crossed the center line, where it was hit from behind by a car traveling westbound.

Three of the four people in the first car died at the scene, KXAN reports. One person in the second car died at the scene while and a person from the same vehicle died later in the hospital.
The medical conditions of the two other people involved in the crash were unknown, as were the identities of those killed.

The accident near Dripping Springs -- located some 23 miles east of Austin -- was the second fatal accident on U.S. 290 on Sunday, both occurring within minutes of each other.
Just before 2 p.m. in Manor, 12 miles northeast of Austin, two people were killed at Highway 290 at Albert Voelker Road in an accident being blamed on road slick conditions.
