Hit-And-Run Driver Kills 4-Year-Old Boy In East Austin

Police continue to search for the driver who fled the scene.

EAST AUSTIN, TX -- Police continue to search for a driver who struck and killed a child before fleeing the scene Sunday evening.

The fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Cameron Road and Briarcliff Boulevard at about 5 p.m. Police staged a news conference near the site two hours later in an effort to apprise the public of the incident.

The vehicle involved was described as a white or tan early 2000-model Chevrolet Silverado pickup with a ladder on a rack located in the back of the truck's bed. The truck was last seen heading southbound on Cameron Road.

Once caught, the driver will face a charge of failure to stop and render aid.

Officers responding to the scene attempted to administer first aid to the four-year-old boy before he was taken to Dell Children's Medical Center, but he died a short time later.
