Holiday Party Sheds Light on Organ Donation

Dozen Street owner was saved by liver transplant three years ago.

EAST AUSTIN, TX -- East Side fixture Dozen Street, a neighborhood music venue, was the recent setting to raise awareness to the importance of organ donation.

The cocktail bar’s owner, Pat Buchta, staged the event to raise money for Donate Life, a nonprofit promoting organ donation. The event also served to honor the memory of juvenile organ donors.

As part of the festivities, Buchta took to the stage with his band “The Misfit Toys.”

For Buchta, the cause strikes a personal chord, he told KVUE-TV. Three years ago, he received a life-saving liver transplant.

“I was a very sick kid and spent a lot of Christmases in the hospital myself,” Buchta told the TV station.
