Illegal Fireworks Outside East Austin School Results In $35K Worth Of Damage

The fire at Govalle Elementary destroyed building supplies that were part of an ongoing restoration at the facility.

East Austin, TX -- Errant fireworks sparks are believed to be to blame for a July 4 fire at Govalle Elementary School that resulted in $35,000 in property damage.

The school building itself was not damaged by the fire, but building material that had been left in the parking lot was destroyed, Fox 7 reported. The supplies were there as part of a $2 million renovation the school is undergoing.

School officials now plan to study surveillance camera footage to see who was behind the illegal fireworks display that caused the damage.
