Man Arrested After Handgun Found In Carry-on Luggage At Austin Airport

AUSTIN, TX — A man trying to bring a gun through security checkpoint at the Austin airport was arrested on Monday, according to a published report.
Eric K. Coats had a .45 caliber handgun in his carry-on bag when he tried passing through a security checkpoint at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Monday, the Austin American-Statesman reported, referencing a newly released arrest affidavit.
Security personnel with the Transportation Security Agency detected the gun with the help of an X-ray machine and promptly took Coats into custody, according to the report. The man reportedly told TSA agents the gun is his but he is not currently licensed to carry a concealed handgun, according to officials.

The man was arrested on for carrying a weapon in a prohibited place and booked into Travis County Jail on $7,500 bail, according to the report.
