Man Swept Up By Colorado River Currents Later Found Dead In East Austin

The man in his 60s fell into the water and was found dead about 30 minutes after emergency crews launched frantic search for him.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — A man who was swept away by currents in the Colorado River was later found dead on Wednesday afternoon.

The man was reported missing shortly after 4 p.m. near the Longhorn Dam along the 2800 block of East Cesar Chavez, according to Austin-Travis County EMS medics. After a futile search, rescue crews shifted into a recovery mode and found the man's body about 30 minutes after the search.

It's unclear how the unidentified man in his 60s fell into the water, although there were sporadic showers descending across the area that may have contributed to the choppiness of the water.
