Moped Driver Struck, Killed By Bus Was UT-Austin Student

Nancy-Jane David, a Chi Omega sorority member, was killed Monday evening after a bus struck her from behind.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — The victim of a deadly traffic accident Monday evening between a bus and a moped in East Austin has been identified as a University of Texas student, members of her sorority confirmed.

Chi Omega sorority members identified the woman as Nancy-Jane David, who was a junior at UT-Austin and a member of the 2014 pledge class, her classmates wrote on Facebook.

"She had the kindest spirit, and showed utmost sincerity and love for everyone around her," Chi Omega members wrote. "She was beautiful, pure, adventurous, positive, and joyful. Nancy-Jane has shown all of her Chi Omega sisters what it means to be a Chi Omega, embodying the Symphony in all aspects of her life."

David was driving a moped near the 4000 block of Manor Road when she wass struck by a bus traveling behind her just after 7 p.m. Reports indicate the victim had experienced mechanical difficulty on her moped before being struck by the bus, which was empty at the time save for the driver who stayed on the scene until police arrived.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics rushed to the scene, but were unable to help David. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sorority members have scheduled a candlelight vigil in front of the UT Tower at 8 p.m. Wednesday to honor David's memory. The event will be open to the public.

"She has taught us that life is precious and beautiful, and meant to be explored, embraced, enjoyed, and celebrated," David's sorority sisters wrote. "Her positivity was contagious, and the way she cherished those around her was a true example for her friends. Our members are heartbroken at the loss of such a perfect, beautiful human that was taken from us too soon."

Police continue to investigate the accident.
