Motorcyclist Dies In East Austin After Colliding With Car

It's the third fatality involving a motorcycle in less than a week on Austin roadways.

EAST AUSTIN, TX -- Yet another motorcycle-vehicle collision has left a dead accident victim in its wake, this time in East Austin on Saturday evening.

According to Austin-Travis County EMS officials, a motorcyclist in his 30s died in the wreck that occurred in the 1600 block of Royal Crest Drive near Riverside Drive.

The collision happened at about 7 p.m. on Saturday, and police are still on the scene investigating. EMS officials said motorists in the area should expect delays as a result.

This is the third fatality involving a motorcycle in just the past few days in Austin.

On April 19 just before 1 p.m., a motorcyclist hit a car exiting a driveway in the 9900 block of Lake Creek Parkway. The man on the motorcycle, 57-year-old Claude Martin was dead at the scene.

Police said Martin was not wearing a helmet at the time.

Just two days before that traffic fatality, a teenage motorcyclist was killed in the 1500 block of Grove Boulevard in almost identical scenario: A motorcycle hitting a car exiting a driveway. Killed in that wreck was Jack De Leon, 17 years old and the 18th traffic fatality in Austin so far this year.
