Motorcyclist Killed In East Austin After Failing To Make Curve

Man in his 30s wasn't wearing helmet or protective gear when investigators say he was unable to negotiate curve at Springdale Road.

EAST AUSTIN, TX -- There's been yet another death of a motorcyclist on Austin roadways, the latest one occurring during early-morning hours Thursday in East Austin.

According to Austin-Travis County EMS officials, medics were called at 6 a.m. Thursday to the 7900 block of Spingdale Road. That's where a motorcyclist was traveling southbound toward Tuscany Way before crashing.

Police said the motorcyclist apparently wasn't able to negotiate a curve on Springdale as he made his approach on Tuscany Way.

The man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene, EMS officials said. In a tweet, the Travis County Sheriff's Office said the investigating agency overseeing the accident site is the Texas Department of Public Safety. One aspect of the DPS investigation is complete: The determination that the man killed was not wearing a helmet or any sort of protective gear before his death.

Ironically, the latest death comes shortly less than two weeks after DPS officials chose May as its "Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month" promoting safety for those riding on two wheels.
