Motorcyclist Killed On Sharp East Austin Curve Identified

Zachary Ryan Alexander-Ball, 26, was traveling at a high rate of speed early Sunday, and was killed after slamming into a metal gate.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the motorcyclist who was killed this week after failing to negotiate a curb in East Austin.

Police say Zachary Ryan Alexander-Ball, 26, on Sunday was driving a blue, 2002 Yamaha motorcycle northbound along the 1300 block of Thornberry Road at a high rate of speed when he failed to navigate a sharp curve while attempting to head east onto Crozier Lane.

The motorcyclist struck a metal gate along the north side of Crozier Lane, police said, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the incident occurred at about 2:20 a.m.

Police noted the case is still being investigated. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-4424. Tips also can be submitted after downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.

The incident represents Austin's 57th fatal traffic crash and the 59th fatality of 2017, police said. At this time last year, there were 59 fatal traffic crashes and 60 traffic fatalities.
