Nearly 50 Parents Behind On Child Support Payments Arrested In Travis, Hays Counties
Precinct 5 Constable Carlos Lopez alone effected 27 arrests, while Hays County constables collectively made 17 arrests tor recover $48K.

AUSTIN, TX — A sweep of deadbeat parents yielded nearly 50 arrests for violating child support orders throughout Travis and Hays counties, officials said.
Constables conducted a sweep along with the child support division of the state attorney general's office in effecting the arrests, officials said. Some $48,256 worth of child support was collected as a result, according to a news release.
Officials lauded the diligence of Precinct 5 Constable Carlos Lopez and Hays County Constable David Peterson (Precinct 1). Others singled out for their efforts included constables Michael Torres of Precinct 2, Ray Helm of Precinct 3 and John Ellen of Precinct 5. Lopez alone is said to have arrested 27 parents in violation of child support orders while Hays County constables collectively arrested 17.

Delinquent parents arrested on civil warrants face up to six months in jail, with cash bonds posted for jail release paid to the custodial parents and children who are owed back child support. Parents who have fallen behind on their child support payments but not subject to warrants for their arrest are urged to contact the attorney general's Child Support Division at (800) 252-8014 or by visiting this site to make payment arrangements.
