Officials Seek Input On East Travis County Medical Needs

As more families are displaced to eastern portion of the county amid a cost-of-living increases, Central Health seeks to fill their needs.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Central Health officials have scheduled a community gathering next week to gain insights into the medical needs of families pushed to eastern Travis County amid a rising cost of living in Austin.

As property rates rise amid brisk commercial development, an increasing number of families have been pushed to the eastern part of the county where there is a dearth of health centers, pharmacies, transportation and groceries. Given that reality, Central Health officials will host a "Community Conversation" on Monday, May 14, to discuss short- and long-term solutions to address the region's health-related challenges, officials announced on Tuesday.

Feedback from the public will be valuable to Central Health officials as they gather input related to their planned eastern Travis County service expansion project, they said. Central Health and The Eastern Travis County Health and Wellness Collaboration—a coalition made up of more than 15 community-based health care and service providers working to address the challenges faced by residents of Eastern Travis County, officials explained. The collaboration has worked on short and long-term health care solutions throughout eastern Travis County, officials added.
