Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Car In Austin Identified

Ramon Javier Pesina, 46, tried crossing road along 1800 E. SH 71 westbound late at night before he was hit be a vehicle and died at scene.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — Police on Monday identified the pedestrian who died last week after trying to cross an Austin road late at night before being struck by a vehicle.

The incident occurred on Sept. 11 just before 10:30 p.m. at 1800 E. SH 71 westbound. Police say a pedestrian tried crossing a high-speed roadway from northbound to southbound when a 2018 red Dodge Durango traveling westbound and struck the man.

The victim, Ramon Javier Pesina, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, who showed no signs of impairment, remained at the scene to cooperate with a police investigation, according to a police advisory.

Police continue to investigate the case, which represented the 51st fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 52 fatalities this year. At this time in 2017, there were 46 fatal traffic crashes and 48 traffic fatalities.
