Police ID Bicyclist Killed In East Austin By Driver Later Charged With DWI

The March 14 collision led to the death of Charlie Bunton, who would've turned 54 on March 31.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Police identified the bicyclist who was killed on Tuesday after colliding with a vehicle in East Austin, while also disclosing the name of the driver who was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated.

The March 14 incident occurred along the 4800 block of E. Martin Luther King Boulevard Jr. at around 11:42 p.m. Police said Charlie Bunton, 53, was traveling eastbound on the inside westbound lane of the street while a Toyota FJ Cruiser was traveling westbound when they collided.

Bunton was pronounced dead at the scene. He would've turned 54 on March 31, according to a date of birth provided by police. Police said intoxication was a contributing factor in the collision, leading to the arrest of the driver, Christopher Brosemer, 38, on a DWI charge.

The incident marked Austin’s 12th fatal traffic crash of 2017, the same level at this time last year.
