Police ID Dead Teenager From Botched Home Burglary Attempt

Axel Kenneth Loera, 14, was pronounced dead at the scene after police got a call about a burglary at 6000 block of Perlita Drive.

Austin, TX -- Police on Tuesday identified the teenager who was found dead after a burglary report in East Austin on Monday night.

After responding to a call about a burglary in the 6000 block of Perlita Drive on Monday evening. Upon arrival, police found the body of Axel Kenneth Loera, 14, on the ground. He was pronounced dead at 8:40 p.m., and his death has been ruled a homicide.

Police said a juvenile suspect is currently in custody at Gardner Betts Juvenile Center.

The homeowner gave his version of events to KEYE-TV. The family had returned to the home after police alerted them about the burglary. The homeowner claims two teenagers were burglarizing the one accidentally shot the other.

He told the news station he was unsure if the gun used was his own or one belonging to the intruders. The homeowner told the news station that the shooter then ran to a neighbor's house and asked the residents to call 911.
