Police ID Man Shot Dead In East Austin

Ruler Stephon Bailey, 21, was shot at the RARE apartment complex, 6407 Springdale Rd., and died after being rushed to the hospital.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Police on Monday identified the victim of a March 15 shooting that occurred in East Austin.

Ruler Stephon Bailey, a 21-year-old black male, died after arriving at the hospital after being shot at an apartment complex on 6407 Springdale Rd. Police responded to the scene at 12:46 p.m. to find Bailey with obvious trauma throughout his body as a result of gunshot wounds. After EMS medics performed resuscitation efforts, the young man was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge, but he died shortly afterwards.

Police noted they had to issue an "office needs assistance" call at the scene given the chaotic scene with many witnessed gathered while police tried to secure the scene.

Police said in a press release they are still trying to find a suspect, and are working on several leads. A Travis County Medical Examiner autopsy ruled the death a homicide.

A reward of up to a $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the homicide suspect, and those providing information can remain anonymous.
