Police ID Motorcyclist Killed In East Austin

Michael Watson, 38, lost control of his 2018 Indian motorcycle he was driving northbound on Springdale Road before hitting utility pole.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Police on Thursday identified the motorcyclist killed last week after crashing into a utility pole in East Austin.

The incident dates to last Wednesday, June 13, at around 11:26 p.m. at the intersection of Springdale and Webberville roads. According to a police investigation, Michael Watson, 38, lost control of the black, 2018 Indian motorcycle he was driving northbound on Springdale Road. He struck the west curb of Springdale Road before hitting the north curb on Webberville Road and then crashed into a utility pole.

Watson was thrown from the motorcycle upon impact, police said in a press advisory. He was rushed to Dell Seton Medical Center but died of his injuries at 11:22 am. one week later.

Police continue to investigate the case. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call detectives at (512) 974-6935. Those with information also can submit tips by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.

The incident marked Austin's 29th fatal traffic crash so far this year, resulting in 30 fatalities. At this time in 2017, there were 30 fatal traffic crashes and 32 traffic fatalities, police said.
