Police say Epifanio Jimenez-Garcia, 61, didn't look both ways before crossing across the 100 block of Robert T. Martinez Jr. St.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Police on Monday identified the pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a car earlier this month in East Austin.

Epifanio Jimenez-Garcia, 61, was crossing from east to west along the 100 block of Robert T. Martinez Jr. St. on Oct. 13 before being struck by a white, 2013 Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound. Police noted Jimenez failed to look both ways to check for traffic before walking on the roadway.

The pedestrian was rushed to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas, where he died of his injuries the following morning. Police told Patch the motorist stopped at the scene following the incident, and cooperated with the investigation. No charges will be filed as the pedestrian was crossing mid-block, police added.
